Where do i find the engine number in my cadillac 1959?

I have an 1959 cadillac and I need to find the "engine" number just like how a car has a VIN number i need to somehow find the engine number. no stupid comments please.

thanks for answers.|||I don't know but your question brings back old memories for me. In 1959 a friend of mine's father bought an paid cash for a new 1959 Cadillac. The total cost was $5,700.00. How times have changed. The 1959 Cadillac was really popular with its fins and everything...|||According to my Chilton's manual:

"1954 thru 1957

Each car has a serial number and an engine unit number. The car serial number is located on a plate attached to the left front door pillar post.

ENGINE IDENTIFICATION IS STAMPED ON A MACHINED PAD AT THE FRONT, TOP EDGE OF THE RIGHTHAND BLOCK" The engine number has nine digits; the first two indicate the model year; the third and fourth, the series and the succeeding numbers, the individual car serial number. As an example: Engine unit number 546201140 would be a 1954, model 62, with a production numerical sequence of 01140......

1958

Identification is the same as above except, that a letter follows the first two digits of the engine unit number. This letter indicates the body style. All 1958 models were equipped with the same 4.000" x 3.625" (365 cu.in.) engine.

"BEGINNING 1959

Identification same as above, however the engine size has been changed to 4.000" x 3.875" (390 cu. in.)"|||It should be cast or stamped into the front of the engine block just below the cylinder head.
